I am Anne Lawson, one of the Sisterhood, and the creator of the Sketchbook. Let me tell you how it all began…..
I love making sketchbooks, often they are from paper that I have started paintings and drawings on, creations that have not gone any further. I offered a sketchbook to any one on my blog who was interested. I sent one up to Kate.
Fast forward a few months when Kate, Dale and I met up the Botanic Gardens in Melbourne. We had a delightful couple of hours over coffee. When she arrived home Kate sent me back the sketchbook I sent her. I was so touched by it and you can see my blog post about it here.
We chatted about how wonderful it would be if others could add to it. So the Travelling Sketchbook was born. We called out on our blogs to others who might be interested, and the Sisterhood of the Travelling Sketchbook was born! 16 wonderful women!
I created the Sketchbook and sent it off to Kate. It is still travelling in Australia, but will be off to the States and then to Europe ~ Greece, Germany, France and Britain. We joke that it should have its own frequent flyer card!
To find out more about the development of the Sketchbook click on these posts. The Sisters will add posts about their contributions as it comes to them. Click on the follow button on the sidebar and you can see it all unfold!
I think this is a fabulous idea and can’t wait to see everyone’s contributions 🙂

Wonderful – this would be so inspiring to be part of, I know I will enjoy following the progress of you all. A year (or maybe more now) ago I embarked on a similar project with three friends (only known through blogging) where we each made a sketchbook, chose a theme, started our own, then it was sent on to the next person. I am in Sydney, one was in Melbourne and the other two in the US. It worked beautifully and we all became good friends as a result!

Anna, your sketchbook idea is a good one too. It is so good to be in collaboration. As I understand your way of doing it, you each have a completed sketchbook at the end. We still don’t know what will happen to the Sketchbook at the end, but something good will come of it, I know.
